Furioses Comeback für Britney Spears: Bei der 25. Verleihung MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles gewann sie in allen drei Kategorien, in denen sie nominiert war. Die deutsche Teenie-Band Tokio Hotel wurde zur besten Nachwuchsband des Jahres gekürt.

„Tokio Hotel sind vollkommen durchgedreht und fassungslos“, erklärte ihr Manager David Jost nach den VMAs per Telefon, „wir gehen uns jetzt erst mal so richtig besaufen“, rief Tom in Hintergrund, „egal, ob man dafür in Amerika erst 21 Jahre alt sein muss. Die Nacht gehört uns.“ „Sie sollen ruhig mal feiern“, meinte David, „sie sind ja sonst so brav.“ Nun denn, im Moment sind die Jungs zu Recht ganz aus dem Häuschen. Zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte der MTV Video Music Awards wurde eine deutsche Band gleich zweimal nominiert und dann stachen sie auch noch Amerikas Superstars Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Jordan Sparks und Taylor Swift aus. Unglaublich! Schon der Auftritt am Roten Teppich war spektakulär. Tokio Hotel kamen in einem Monstertruck an, auf dem in großen Lettern „Tokio Hotel“ stand.

Mit „Ready, Set, Go“ beschallten sie den Eingang des legendären Paramount Studios in Hollywood und sprangen von der Ladefläche auf den roten Teppich. „Wer sind diese verrückten Jungs“, wollte ein US-Reporter wissen, „den Truck sieht man ja vom Mond.“ In Amerika haben Tokio Hotels zwar Fans, aber am Roten Teppich waren sie für die lokalen Medien eine Neuheit. Jeder sprach Bill auf seine punkige Haarpracht an. „It’s all real“, lachte er. „Wir sind überhaupt nicht nervös“, meinte Tom zu BUNTE Online, „wir erwarten nicht, dass wir gewinnen.“ „Wir freuen uns schon, dass unser Name überhaupt in einer Kategorie mit Miley Cyrus genannt wird“, fügte Gustav hinzu, der zu seinem heutigen 20. Geburtstag wohl das schönste Geschenk seines Lebens bekam. Der Award für „Best New Artist“ konnte übrigens als einziger von Fans via SMS gewählt werden.


„Wir freuen uns auf Pink“

Auch Bill und Tom feierten ihren Geburtstag am 1. September in Los Angeles. „Wir haben uns einfach nur am Strand von Santa Monica entspannt, die Seele baumeln lassen und mit Gustav und Georg angestossen“, verriet Bill. Was sagen sie zu ihrer Doppel-Nominierung? „Wir sind unheimlich stolz. Es ist eine große Ehre für uns. Dass wir hier auf diesem Teppich stehen dürfen haben wir uns nie erträumt. Man kann es nicht in Worte fassen und alles, was ich jetzt sagen würde, wäre untertrieben.“ erklärte Bill, „Es ist wirklich harte Arbeit, den Sprung von Europa nach Amerika zu schaffen, aber wir fühlen uns gerade ziemlich gut“, freute sich Tom. Und auf wen freuen sie sich bei den VMAs? „Wir finden Pink ganz toll und können es kaum erwarten, ihren Auftritt zu sehen“, meinte Bill. Backstage kamen dann sogar die Pussycat Dollas zum Gratulieren. „Wir lieben diese Jungs“, rief „Ober Pussycat“ Nicole Scherzinger.

Wir gönnen uns jetzt eine Pause“

In den nächsten Tagen haben Tokio Hotel noch einen Auftritt in der Jimmy Kimmel Show und dann geht’s zurück nach Deutschland. „Wir wollen ein neues Album aufnehmen, etwas Neues machen und endlich wieder kreativ sein. Dann ziehen wir uns erst mal ein wenig aus der Öffentlichkeit zurück“, verriet Bill, „wir sind seit dreiJahren non stop unterwegs und wollen uns eine Pause gönnen.“ Die Fans werden trauern.

Und wie erklären sie sich diesen Erfolg in Amerika? „Wir haben sehr lange darüber nachgedacht, aber aufgehört, eine Antwort zu suchen. Wir haben einfach viel Glück und sind dankbar, das wir das alles erleben dürfen“, erwiderte Bill.Jetzt ist aber erst einmal Party angesagt. Nach den VMAs feierten Tokio Hotel zuerst bei der MTV After Party kräftig ab und anschließend gings weiter zur Interscope Party in Santa Monica. Herzlichen Glückwunsch!

“Tokio Hotel totally flipped out and were completely stunned”, explains their manager David Jost per telephone after the VMA’s, “We are going to get drunk first”, Tom yells in the background, “regardless if I have to be 21 here in America to do that or not. The night is ours”. “They can go ahead and celebrate”, means Jost, “since they are always well-behaved”. Right now, the boys are freaking out. For the first time in the history of the MTV Video Music Awards a German band is nominated twice, and then they also beat American superstars such as Miley Cyrus, Kate Perry, Jordan Sparks and Taylor Swift. Unbelievable! There entrance at the red carpet was spectacular. Tokio Hotel came in a monster truck with big letters on the side which said “Tokio Hotel”.

The most beautiful birthday gift in the world

With “Ready, Set, Go” they approached the entrance of the legendary Paramount Studios in Hollywood, then jumped out of the trunk onto the red carpet. “Who are these crazy boys”, a US reporter wants to know, “you can see the truck from the moon”. In America Tokio Hotel they may already have lots of fans, but on the red carpet they are still something new to the local media. Everyone is asking Bill about his punky big hair “It’s all real”, he laughs. “We aren’t nervous at all”, Tom claims to BUNTE online, “we don’t expect to win”. “we are just happy our name is even mentioned in a category with Miley Cyrus”, add Gustav, which celebrates his 20th today with the probably best gift in the world. The award for “Best new Artist” was the only one that could be voted for through SMS from fans.

“We are looking forward to seeing Pink”

Also Bill and Tom have celebrated their birthday on the 1st of September in Los Angeles. “We just relaxed on the beach of Santa Monica, gave our mind some peace and opened a drink with Gustav and Georg”, Bill reveals. What do they have to say about their double nomination? “We are incredibly happy. It is a big honor for us. We would have never even dreamt that we would be here standing on the red carpet. You can’t describe it in words and everything I could say right now would be understated”, Bill tells, “It’s really hard work to make it from Europe to America, but we feel really good about it right now”, Tom tells excited. And who are they looking forward to see at the VMA’s? “We really like Pink and are really looking forward to see her perform”, Bill reveals. Backstage the Pussycat dolls come in to congratulate them “We love these boys”, shouts lead pussycat doll Nicole Scherzinger.

“We deserve a little break”

In the next few days Tokio Hotel have an appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel show and then it’s back to Germany. “We want to record a new album, make something new and be creative again. Then we will pull back a little from the spotlight” Bill gives away, “We have been on the road for 3 years and deserve a little break”. The fans will be sad.

And how do they explain the success in America? “We’ve thought about that long and hard but gave up on finding the answer. We have just been really lucky and are incredibly grateful that we can experience this”, Bill answers. Now it’s time to party first. After the VMA’s Tokio Hotel went to the MTV after show party and celebrated hard, and after that it was on to the Interscope Party in Santa Monica. Congratulations!
